The Best Dog-Friendly Boating Activities in Tampa Bay
Florida spring is here, and that means it’s time to hit the water, Tampa Bay! But why should you have to go solo? You can stay socially distanced and enjoy the Bay when you bring a furry friend! And to make sure you have the best time possible, we’re sharing the best dog beaches and dog-friendly places around Tampa Bay!
1. Sand Dollar Key
Also known as Outback Key or Sand Dollar Island, this location is already a must-see if you’re exploring our local waters. Alcohol is welcome, it’s a hotspot for dolphins, and it’s also a perfect paradise for your pooch!
Sand Dollar Key is dog-friendly, meaning you can bring your furry friend and explore this Tampa Bay island! And when you’ve been boating for a few hours, nothing feels better than hanging out on the beach to enjoy the sun, the sand, and the saltwater.
2. Fort DeSoto
Fort DeSoto has a lot of history that’s great to explore, but if you’ve already been there a few times and you want something new, try bringing your best pal for a new adventure! Dogs are allowed all across Fort DeSoto, provided they’re on a six-foot leash.
But if you want to give your pal a chance to run around and stretch their legs, Fort DeSoto can still be a great fit! They can go completely off-leash at the Fort DeSoto dog beach, the Paw Playground. If you’re looking for a dog beach to help burn off some excess energy and enjoy the weather with your dog, this is a strong contender!
3. Pass-a-Grille
While not quite as dog-welcoming as some of the other places on this list, Pass-a-Grille does have dog accommodations and a great view to enjoy with your four-legged friend. Dogs aren’t allowed on the main beach facing the Gulf, but there is a private dog beach for you to check out!
This dog beach is a little smaller, but there’s a lot of advantage to traveling by boat! For one, you won’t have to waste $13 on parking. But even better, if the beach is looking a little busy that day, you can just keep on driving and check out another dog-friendly spot on this list!
4. Local Restaurants
Great news for foodies—plenty of boat-friendly restaurants are also dog-friendly! Tampa Bay has tons of great restaurants on the water, so pull up, tie off your boat, and enjoy a snack with your dog. Long days on the water can be especially long for dogs, and most restaurants are happy to bring you a water bowl to help your buddy cool off.
There are too many fantastic local restaurants to name, but here are some of our favorites that you HAVE to check out:
One of the best things about Tampa Bay is the fresh seafood, so be sure to make a pit stop and grab a bite while you’re exploring the waters with your best pal!
