Help! My Boat Rental Was Canceled: What Now? 2021 FAQs

Tampa Bay boat rentals

Across all of our boat rentals, everything goes off without a hitch in 97% of rentals. Your boat will be freshly cleaned and ready when you show up, checkout is a breeze, and the weather will cooperate for a great day on the water. But inevitably, in some circumstances, boat rentals do get canceled.

And in the unlikely event that that happens to your rental, we want to be totally clear about what you can expect. Don’t worry—we’re not going to leave you high and dry just because of some bad weather! Today, we’re covering all the things you need to know about what to do when your boat rental is canceled due to things outside of your control.

Q: Why was my boat rental canceled?

In general, we only cancel for boat rentals for one of two reasons: bad weather and mechanical problems. We usually get some warning about heavy rains and strong winds, and the second we’re sure that we can’t send out boats that day, we call every customer to notify them. At the latest, this usually means receiving a cancellation call at around 7:30 that morning. It may be later for an afternoon rental, but rest assured that we always strive to let customers know about a cancellation at least an hour before their scheduled rental.

In the case of a mechanical issue, we alert our customers the second that we discover the problem. In most cases, this call comes the day before your boat rental, so you should have plenty of notice. We know it’s a bummer to show up for a boat that doesn’t work, so we’ll always do our best to notify you before you get in the car that morning.

Q: Will I be charged for my cancelled boat rental?

While our normal policy is to charge for boat rentals canceled within 48 hours of the scheduled date, that does not apply to cancelations due to weather or mechanical issues. Don’t worry—if outside circumstances forced us to cancel your boat rental, you will never be charged for it!

Q: What can I do about a canceled boat rental?

We know it sucks to have your boat rental canceled, but you may still have options! In the case of a bad weather day, you can always reschedule to another day with more favorable conditions. Oftentimes, people are glad they waited for easy waters and clear skies—it just makes the day so much more fun!

If your boat rental was canceled because of a mechanical issue, we’ll do our best to move you to another boat. While this depends on what we have available that day, it’s not uncommon for customers to get free upgrades to larger boats when their scheduled boat is in the shop.

Q: What if I don’t want to reschedule my boat rental?

While we always encourage rescheduling your boat rental, we don’t mind if you decide not to reschedule after a cancellation. As much as we want to help you get out on the water, we totally get that sometimes the situation just doesn’t work out!
